Bethlehem Waterways
Get to know your water.
Problem
Following a citywide notice about potential lead in Bethlehem’s tap water, more than 37,000 residents were left with urgent questions —particularly how historic infrastructure and housing age translate to personal risk. In a city defined by its history, over half of the residents don’t know where their water comes from or what materials their home’s pipes are made of. While officials urged homeowners to conduct their own research, centralized information was scarce, leaving widespread concern without a clear path to understanding.
Approach
An information-driven visual narrative that maps the city’s primary water sources and historic infrastructure. By layering research with accessible design, this project helps homeowners identify pipe materials and assess risk based on the age of their homes—translating public concern into informed, actionable awareness.
