A flatpack chair made from OSB.

Work & Rock

This collaborative project explores flat-pack furniture through the design of a rocking chair optimized for workspace use, emphasizing a more upright posture. Modeled in Fusion 360, the chair was engineered to meet a 1-inch flat-pack thickness constraint and fabricated from a single 29” × 47” sheet of oriented strand board.

Components were precision-cut on a waterjet and assembled using zip ties, prioritizing efficient fabrication and rapid assembly. While the compact construction and assembly strategy were successful, the final prototype revealed limitations in ergonomics and material performance—offering critical insights into the tradeoffs between form, function, and fabrication constraints.
